St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, invites applications for the post of Bursar. The Bursar is the College’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the financial strategy and operations of the College. The role supports the Warden and Governing Body in formulating academic, property and investment strategies, and takes the lead on major projects and legal matters.

St Antony’s College is one of the seven colleges of the University of Oxford, which admit graduate students only. The College specialises in the interdisciplinary study of international relations, economics, politics and history of particular parts of the world.  It provides an informal and multi-cultural environment for advanced research and post-graduate education and has become a leading centre for international studies.

The Bursar is a Governing Body Fellow and leads the College’s administration under the direction of the Governing Body; contributing to strategic development and directing all business processes.  These include legal; governance; financial management; student administration and welfare; HR; domestic and accommodation services; property management; libraries, and IT. The Bursar attends meetings of Advisory Boards or other committees to report on the finances of the College and any specific funds or programmes, and to advise on financial matters involving the College.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced operations and finance professional who is motivated by a deep commitment to use their experience to support the academic community in St Antony’s College. You will be equally adept and enthused by engaging in strategic decision-making and getting involved in the day-to-day delivery of the operational and finance functions. You will be a proactive team player with an analytical mind and a talent for effectively managing multiple competing priorities. A successful track record of managing diverse operations and finance functions, and translating strategic plans and decisions into operational practice will be essential. You will be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of financial planning, management and reporting, along with experience of successfully fulfilling governance and compliance requirements. You must be educated to degree level. Professional accountancy qualifications, or other professional qualifications relevant to the role, and experience in Higher Education administration would be desirable.

In return, we offer excellent benefits including 41 days’ annual holiday (including bank/public holidays); membership of the USS pension scheme; membership of a Healthcare Insurance scheme; a dining allowance, and free meals in College.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our diverse, intellectual community. The successful candidate will join a strong network of colleagues within the St Antony’s community, across the colleges, and the wider University. St Antony’s College is an equal opportunities employer.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic and other senior posts in Oxford.
