The Stanford University Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology seeks a Life Science Technician 1 at full time. The LST will work with mammalian tissue cultures under Standard University approved protocols and will create laboratory buffers and reagents. The person will assist post docs with their work and will help maintaining the animal colonies. The position also requires accurate record keeping of experiments and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications:

  • One year’s employment experience in laboratory work or equivalent training (e.g., one year of college science).
  • Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records.
  • Must be capable of and willing to pay strict attention to detail, including following written and oral instruction.
  • Positive learning attitude, be detail oriented, with excellent organizational skills. Individual will also have experience of working well in teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
  • Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
  • Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds
  • Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds
  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Position may require repetitive motion.

Unusual working conditions:

  • May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.
  • May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
  • Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous or infectious agents are present.
  • Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.
  • May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements and business needs.
