We are seeking to appoint a skilled and motivated individual to the role of Metadata and Discovery Coordinator.

Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions and Content Delivery, the post holder will have responsibility for:

  • Co-ordinating activities relating to the creation and management of Library metadata, including overseeing the cataloguing of new material to be added to the physical and digital collection.
  • Taking forward initiatives to improve the discoverability of content within Library resource discovery services, monitoring metadata quality and ensuring compliance with standards
  • Supporting the production and collection of selected Library analytics.

The post holder will line manage the Senior Information Assistant (Metadata and Discovery), ensuring workload targets are met, and delivering continuous improvement of operational processes.

A key function of the role will be to provide leadership within the Library for metadata and discovery and enabling the discovery of relevant material and content for a wide range of users. The post holder will drive the implementation and use of national and international standards, particularly when applied to imported shelf-ready records and existing catalogue content.  You will also ensure the high quality of metadata contributed to national and international consortia.

You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, ideally with a postgraduate qualification in a library and information science discipline. You will have substantial experience of applying current metadata standards and leading colleagues in their use. Knowledge of best practice in cataloguing both digital content and physical material is a key requirement.  You should be a skilled and confident communicator, customer-focussed and a flexible team player. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to plan and implement metadata and collection management projects in collaboration with other library teams. Accuracy and a methodical approach are essential, along with flexibility, and good IT skills.

This is a full time and permanent post, available immediately. We are based in Egham, Surrey, where Royal Holloway is situated in a beautiful campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
