Biological Services unit

Applications are invited for a full-time Experienced Technician within the Biological Services Unit (BSU). The BSU Technician will work within one of the Biological Services Units, which are based on all three campuses, under Professional Services and Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD).

The post holder will be requested to work at other sites but will mainly be based on one campus.

The post will involve contribution to the daily running of the BSU and ensuring high standards of husbandry and hygiene. The post holder must have experience with maintenance and generation for transgenic colonies and undertake procedures as required. Also, they should have a commitment to welfare and demonstrate the ability to ensure adequate completion of essential documentation and records.

Previous experience within a BSU facility is vital and the applicant will be required to hold or work towards attaining IAT level 3 diploma in husbandry and Laboratory Animal Science and Technology and to hold or obtain a Personal licence under the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986.

The post is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date in October 2019. Starting salary will be in the range of £27,742-£34,220 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
