APPLY NOW

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in Mechanical Engineering. As a successful candidate, you will conduct research in the area of aero-elasticity for future generations of aero-engines. In particular, you develop a novel method to explore the mechanism of flutter and forced response in modern low pressure turbines.  You use a direct numerical simulation model as a computational wind tunnel, to investigate the effects of various sources of unsteadiness on the aero-elastic instabilities of blades.

The numerical model will also be used to identify the relative merits and adequate working range of current low-fidelity numerical methods for modern LPT aeromechanical design and analysis.

This position is funded by an EPSRC research project grant and you will work with Dr Mohammad Rahmati (Principal Investigator) and will collaborate with Sherwin Lab (Imperial College) and Osney lab (Oxford).

The ideal candidate will have expertise in computational modelling, fluid dynamics and knowledge of turbo-machinery.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline by the start of the project.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Mohammad Rahmati at mohammad.rahmati@northumbria.ac.uk
