The School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy is a vibrant and ambitious school with a proud record of research and teaching excellence. The school provides world-class education for students interested in careers in Biomedical Science (anatomy, physiology, immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics and pharmacology) and Pharmacy. It also contributes to the medical, allied health, and nursing degrees offered by the Faculty of Health and Medicine. The School prides itself on its reputation as one of the University's most research-intensive.

This position is a unique opportunity to drive the next phase of the development and advancement of the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, to build a contemporary school equipped to address global challenges and support the Faculty to achieve growth and quality outcomes in teaching, research and innovation. As a member of the Faculty’s Executive, the Head of School will be a key contributor to enacting the Faculty’s vision, mission and goals.

The Head of School will promote and foster a collaborative, dynamic, productive and globally competitive research environment through research collaboration, external grant income, publication outputs, and research higher degree graduates. The promotion of excellence in teaching and learning through appropriate curriculum development and delivery is also a key requirement of this role.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong and sustained research track record that includes high quality publications and income derived from grants and industry partnerships, as well as evidence of established health sector collaborations and links with professional bodies aligned to the disciplines. They will be committed to excellence in teaching and learning outcomes for students with an understanding of contemporary pedagogy and its attendant opportunities.

The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University.  The School consists of four discipline groupings:

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering and Surveying
  • Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Aerospace Systems, Electrical, Computer Systems
  • Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering

The School is home to many leading-edge research centres and has strong links with industry through sponsored undergraduate students and research collaborations. It is highly research active, contributing substantially to the overall research inputs and outputs of the CESE.  This is reflected in the 2018 Excellence in Research in Australia outcomes where Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and Resource Engineering codes all received an ERA5.
