Position Focus:

This position is with the Belief, Learning and Memory Lab, head by Dr. Philip Corlett. This lab focuses on delusion and hallucination research. The team studies the neural basis of human associative learning and belief formation  relating these processes to delusional belief formation.
 
The position is located at Connecticut Mental Health Center. The Research Assistant will primarily be working on an online survey and task-based project. This study will investigate self-deception and delusions. The Research Assistant will aid in administering surveys and tasks through Amazon Mechanical Turk and by other online means.
 
The Research Assistant will also be responsible for participant recruitment. They will manage participant compensation to study participants. The Research Assistant will aid in data entry and management. They will be handling sensitive information and documents, following HIPAA and Yale guidelines. The Research Assistant will help in the analysis of the behavioral data using statistical analysis packages and computational models.

There is additional opportunity for the Research Assistant to be involved in other studies at the lab. These studies may involve functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalogram (EEG), Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), etc. We anticipate that study participants will have a range of psychotic illnesses, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, etc. They can assist in recruitment efforts by administering phone screens. They can also assist in running study visits with participants, including collecting informed consent, administering questionnaires, conducting clinical assessments and carrying out other necessary study procedures.

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proficiency in administering online surveys.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proficiency in data analysis using statistical analysis SPSS or SAS packages and computational models.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Experience with clinical trials. Demonstrated ability with computer programming such as Matlab, Python, JavaScript, or SQL.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proficiency with data collection, entry and management.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in related area (such as psychology, neuroscience, public health).
  • Experience with Access, Amazon Mechanical Turk, EPRIME, MATLAB, REDCap.
  • Experience with clinical populations, specifically individuals experiencing psychosis.
