As the department of project management we are responsible for the day to day management of all externally funded research projects that are coordinated by the Faculty of Science. Our department continuously runs several projects and at the same time and assists project leaders in acquiring new projects under their lead.

We are highly flexible in operating in both current running projects and in the constant acquisition rounds of proposals with external funders, mainly the European Commission, but also Dutch national funding agencies like NWO and RVO/ministries. We are highly service oriented towards the scientific staff, willing to work under pressure and always working towards solutions.

The Faculty of Science has been very successful in acquiring large consortium projects, as coordinator, and has defined a priority to maintain and possibly expand this position. Our department plays a key role in supporting this policy and realizing this ambition.

The application pressure is high and interest in coordinating project proposals needs to remain on the highest possible level, which is why our department is looking for a project manager to reinforce the team to keep up with concrete project management duties and to assist all proposal writing efforts at a high quality level.

What are you going to do?

  • Day-to-day executive management of the relevant projects(s) and follow up on requirements set by the external funding organization;
  • management of internal relations with project co-workers;
  • management of legal, financial and administrative obligations of the projects, towards the funding organisation, the partners in the consortium and the UvA;
  • prepare reports, both internal and external;
  • financial management and reporting, in close cooperation with the UvA project administration;
  • prepare and organize internal project meetings and assist in (the organization of) disseminating activities like workshops, website, conferences and publications;
  • maintain contacts with external stakeholders and act as first contact for the relevant projects;
  • actively assist research staff in the faculty in acquiring new projects, negotiate with potential funders and advise on funding opportunities and assist and contribute to proposal writing processes.

What do we require?

  • Higher professional education or academic background, preferably in science. Experience with scientific research is an advantage;
  • good knowledge of the European Framework Program Horizon2020. Knowledge of NWO consortium grant schemes (NWA-ORC, Zwaartekracht etc.), the Marie Curie ITN programme and/or RVO grants is an advantage;
  • experience in project management and in writing project proposals and understanding subsidy schemes and understanding of project administrative issues, finances, procedures, legal issues, and organization.

Furthermore you:

  • are capable of operating both independently with own authority, based on knowledge, expertise and experience, as within a team where you are willing to handle each other’s work where necessary;
  • are willing to travel abroad and to work with flexible work hours and where necessary on irregular hours;
  • have a creative mind in setting up new projects and converting ideas into practice;
  • demonstrate a service oriented attitude towards the goal of bringing more and better science to our Faculty. You are willing to perform both high and low level tasks in the relevant projects;
  • have good communicative skills, both in Dutch and English, and are capable of maintaining a high level, sometimes intercultural network.

Our offer

A temporary contract for 32 to 38 hours per week for the duration of 12 months. Extension of the contract for 3 more years will be discussed upon positive evaluation.

The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,709 to €4,274 (scale 10) gross per month, based on full-time (38 hours a week), exclusive 8 % holiday allowance and 8.3 end-of-year bonus. A favorable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
