It’s All Academic…

We seek a highly motivated, forward-thinking fundraising leader with outstanding high-value relationship development and campaign experience combined with inspirational leadership skills to join our highly successful Office of the Vice-Provost (Advancement) in the role of Head of Major Gifts.

In 2016 UCL launched It’s All Academic – its biggest ever philanthropy and engagement campaign with the goal of raising £600 million and 250,000 volunteer hours for world-changing research, far-reaching student support and transformative capital projects; by May 2019 the Campaign total reached £535 million and 180,000 volunteer hours. From fighting dementia to ensuring generations of students reach their full potential, UCL’s ideas and discoveries are shaping the future, improving lives and having a massive impact on London and the wider world.

Reporting directly to the Director of Development, the Head of Major Gifts will play a critical role in the Advancement Office providing strategic leadership and direction to the major gift team. Operating across all areas of UCL activity you will drive income delivery at the £100,000 - £5 million level. You will lead and inspire a high performing team responsible for the engagement, cultivation and solicitation of trusts, foundations, individuals and businesses in order to secure philanthropic income to support the final year of the It’s All Academic Campaign and its transition beyond. With a strong emphasis on growth and the development of new income sources, relationships and markets you will also manage your own prospect pool and will deliver gifts at the highest level.

The successful candidate will bring significant fundraising and team leadership experience, with an inspirational approach to people management. You will have a proven track record of successfully leading and motivating high-performing individuals in a results-orientated environment; monitoring and driving performance to exceed ambitious goals, and supporting career development to get the best out of all members of your team. You will be confident at establishing your credibility and managing a complex set of relationships with donors as well as internal stakeholders across UCL and its partner organisations, including the NHS.

We are pleased to accept applications from candidates seeking part-time opportunities (minimum 0.8 FTE – equivalent of 4 days per week, with salary pro-rata); although the ability for frequent travel is necessary. Also, we particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, as they are under-represented within UCL at this level.

We know that our people are our greatest asset and in return we provide an empowering, values-based environment where personal and professional growth are invested in. We offer agile working and flexibility around working hours. We also value mutual respect and collaboration, and have a strong customer-service ethic. Expectations are high and we work hard, but the rewards are huge.

UCL is an outstanding place to work. We welcome people from all backgrounds and strive to create an environment where everyone can give of their best. Working with some of the greatest intellects in the world, you will also be entitled to a generous pension scheme and holiday allowance.

Location: London.

Competitive salary and benefits package, salary commensurate on experience.
