Panalpina

We bring together academics from Cardiff Business School with operational practitioners from Panalpina to tackle important contemporary problems in logistics and manufacturing management.

Together, we hope to shape the medium to long-term future of the logistics industry.

The Panalpina Group is one of the world's leading providers of supply chain solutions. The company combines its core products of air Freight, ocean freight, and logistics to deliver globally integrated, tailor-made end-to-end solutions.

Working together over the last five years we have been able to jointly identify future manufacturing and supply chain trends, and build our research in anticipation of this changing environment.

We conduct fundamental research (funded either directly by research councils or undertaken through doctoral investigations) and translate its outputs to business insights and commercially viable solutions.

Based at Cardiff Business School, the centre is partially funded by Panalpina. Panalpina have also sponsored a seminar room in Cardiff Business School’s Postgraduate Teaching Centre, a £13.5 million building custom made to meet the needs of our students.

We operate on the basis of transferring knowledge generated at Cardiff University to Panalpina and, through that, to the wider logistics community.

We have received several awards for our collaborative work, which has also been showcased numerous times in the media.

Teaching and training

We complement our research and knowledge transfer activities with curriculum development and delivery through a range of initiatives, including:

  • the annual Panalpina award for the best student essay in a chosen topic
  • guest lectures and seminars from Panalpina staff to Cardiff University
  • students
  • student placements
  • sponsored MSc dissertations
  • company field tours.

We also co-designed the Panalpina Academy, a training programme for Panalpina employees which aims to provide the skills to run a successful business and unlock each individual's potential.

Panalpina offer a wide range of career opportunities for students and graduates.
