Working Type: 18.5 hours per week, flexible but should include Thursdays

Applications are invited for a 12 month research position working on a Government funded project between Northumbria University and Sage (UK) Ltd.

The project will test the innovative use of accountants as trusted advisors to enable the uptake of “tried-and tested technologies, accountancy, CRM or HR software or payment systems” by SMEs. The project focusses on training accountants to transfer knowledge about digital adoption to their SME customers. This route is supported by the CBI “From Ostrich to Magpie” report (2017): that improving UK companies’ adoption of existing technologies offers a unique opportunity to raise their business productivity. 

This project is an evaluation comprising a randomised controlled trial (RCT) with a process evaluation. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the RCT, working on the management and analysis of quantitative data.  

The candidate will work with Dr Simon Lillystone.  The candidate will also have the opportunity to work and interact with other research groups and SMEs across England. 

The successful candidate will be working towards or due to completion of a PhD in a business or social science discipline. Experience in quantitative research is essential and previous experience of working on research projects is desirable.
