Pro Vice-Chancellor (Curriculum & Student Experience)

You will assume full responsibility for all teaching and learning activities across the University at Further and Higher Education as well as a growing apprenticeship offer. We seek nothing less than excellence in the quality of our curriculum, teaching and learning and student experience, embedded in all that we do. Ensuring that state of the art teaching and learning strategies and facilities are in place, including high-end digital platforms, together with a relentless pursuit of an outstanding student experience in everything we deliver in teaching and support services will be at the heart of everything your role. There are four academic schools and a range of support services, all driven by industry experienced staff with a keen desire to deliver an unrivalled and personalised experience to each and every student at all levels.

In strategically and operationally leading the range of academic and support teams, you will seek to further build upon a successful curriculum offer but to innovate extensively in driving forward a new and refreshed curriculum offer. This will be showcased within a new teaching and learning strategy, to include an exciting new range of delivery methods.  In doing so, you will fully engage with staff, ensuring their involvement in and ownership of the University’s next stage of academic development. You will have oversight of and ensure a highly imaginative new curriculum, supported by a rigorous and representative Academic Board and subcommittees.

Quality of curriculum, teaching and learning delivery, the student experience and employability will be the key focus of your work with the support of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Quality & Estates) as the university strives for the highest possible levels of internally and external measured quality assessment. You will have a thorough understanding and experience of working with related data and metrics and how these can be used to inform the need for improvements, linking closely to the TEF and new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework assessments. The university is a proud holder of TEF Silver but with a very strong ambition to achieve TEF Gold, return to Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ status and you will support all staff in their aspiration to achieve this on behalf of our wide and diverse student community.

You will be a confident, credible, engaging ‘hands-on’ academic leader  who commands respect to represent the university at all levels and across a wide spectrum of business and partnerships.

You will also have a very strong strategic and operational understanding of changing strategies within the Further & Higher education, apprenticeships and international student recruitment markets, coupled with an astute strategic grasp of developing government and regulatory policies and their potential impact.

This is a very exciting role for someone with a strong academic career, supported with senior leadership experience and a track record in delivery of curriculum innovation and growth. This should be underpinned by the highest levels of quality and a demonstrable passion for student experience in a diverse and inclusive teaching and learning university aligned to our values and mission.
