The opportunity

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a Lectureship in Mathematics (equivalent to an assistant professor in the US). The position is open to any researcher in any area of analysis, (including Functional Analysis, Topology, Theoretical PDEs and Differential Geometry). The successful candidate will be expected to be a collegial, constructive member of the mathematics department.

The successful applicant will start in July 2020, though this is potentially subject to negotiation.

About the role

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • perform high-quality mathematics teaching/lecturing at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level, including service teaching to students with diverse mathematical backgrounds
  • establish their own research programme that attracts graduate students
  • be well organised and self-motivated
  • contribute to creating an environment which is safe, inclusive and accepting of diversity and difference
  • perform administrative service roles for the Department of Mathematics and for the Faculty of Science.

Skills and experience

Our ideal candidate will:

  • hold a PhD in some major branch of mathematical analysis
  • have a track record of publications in refereed journals
  • have experience in lecturing mathematics at undergraduate level
  • have experience with organising research and teaching
  • have had success in attracting external funding for research.
