Job description

We are currently looking for an Associate Professor in Child Health Nursing to join our School of Health & Social Care on a full time basis. We will be appointing to our Professional Practice or Learning & Teaching pathway.

Edinburgh Napier is one of the largest providers of nursing and midwifery education in Scotland with a strong inter-professional and transnational education portfolio. Uniquely, in Scotland, the School offers midwifery and all four fields of practice in nursing: adult, child health, mental health and learning disabilities.

The school is structured into a number of themes that signify our areas of strength and growth; these consist of programmes of education, research, enterprise (CPD and Consultancy) and professional practice. Our large facility is versatile and covers everything from a critical care unit and clinical ward to a home environment and is utilised to facilitate learning and simulations to a number of external organisations and private companies.

The role

As Associate Professor, you will be an academic leader delivering high quality, student centred teaching, underpinned by academic scholarship, to our Child Health Nursing students within our Bachelor and Masters in Nursing programmes. You will also be expected to support other educational programmes delivered by the School. You will have a leading role in enhancing the School's research profile within Child Health by developing research proposals and external funding bids, designing and leading on research projects, ensuring their effective management and delivery of high quality outcomes. This post is within the School's Women, Children and Families Theme. You will lead and develop internal and external networks in order to foster collaboration and share information/ideas to promote the subject specialism, Theme, school and the University.

Who we are looking for?

Essential requirements

  • Qualification in a relevant discipline at least to postgraduate level
  • Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council in child health nursing or in another field but with considerable experience in the care of children and young people.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in the care of children and young people to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes.
  • Sustained evidence of a professional academic profile at least of national standing
  • Evidence of high quality teaching and academic leadership e.g. leading educational programmes and research projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate a level of achievements appropriate to the post being applied for including a track record of high quality outputs and external income generation.

Desirable requirements

  • Doctoral level qualification 
  • Post-graduate certificate of Education or equivalent
  • PhD supervision experience and completions.
