Lecturer in Sociology (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for 2.5 FTE Lecturers in Sociology to support the delivery of its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes during the academic year 2019/20. The posts will involve convenorship of modules, supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate taught dissertations, contributing guest lectures and specialist support on a range of topics and support of the core functioning of our degree programmes through providing academic advice and undertaking academic-related administration. The post-holders will report formally to the Head of Department but will work on a day-to-day basis with the programme directors for Sociology, Criminology and Social Research Methods as appropriate

We are seeking to appoint candidates who can demonstrate an extensive knowledge of and ability to teach core Sociological and/or Criminological Theory and an interest in two or more of the following areas:

  • Classical and Contemporary Sociological Theory
  • Social Research Methods (including Statistical Methods)
  • Criminological Theory and Criminal Justice Institutions
  • Sex Work and the Criminal Justice System
  • Violence and Abuse (with a specific focus on domestic violence and violence against women)
  • Cybercrime and Cyberculture
