Position Focus:

Under the supervision of Dr. Nicoli and research team, the candidate will carry out tasks in all aspects of the following primary projects: identification and regulation of miRNAs-mRNA during the development of zebrafish embryonic and adult vascular system; generation of endothelial miRNAs mutant(s); role of miRNAs-mRNAs during artery–vein and blood lineage in zebrafish embryos differentiation and function.

The successful candidate supports specific research efforts by carrying out defined, technical tasks in the laboratory utilizing standards biology/chemistry/physics/ equipment and apparatus; follows specific regimens or protocols to achieve research goals and objectives; collect, input and report research data; and provide laboratory operations, safety and security. Maintain, operate and troubleshoot problems for all laboratory equipment. Performs additional functions incidental to lab activities under the supervision of the lab manager(s) and the Principal Investigator. Under the guidance of PI, the research assistant will also perform proper laboratory techniques associated with study protocols.

Essential Duties

  1. Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/ scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.
  2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques.
  3. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  4. Formulates and prepares scientific solutions and media. Recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
  5. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May oversee and instruct research staff.
  6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven ability to assist postdoctoral and research associates conducting basic molecular biology and genetics experiments.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability to manage transgenic mutant zebrafish, including breeding and genotyping.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability ordering basic laboratory supplies and maintain routine lab equipment and working environment.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proven ability to assist PI with recordkeeping and organization of the lab.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Previous experience with establishing seamless transgene integration technique within Danio rerio. Generation of mutant Danio rerio lines utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 systems. Previous experience working in Cardiovascular Medicine; conducting F0 studies evaluating cardiovascular morphology defects, lineage tracing and emergence of hemopoietic stem cells.
