About the opportunity 

The University is establishing a Safer Communities Office with a focus on strengthening inclusivity and safety for our students, staff, former students and staff members and visiting members of the public.

A key function of the office will be to provide support to members of the University community who report University-related incidents of sexual misconduct (sexual assault and sexual harassment) and domestic violence.

We are looking to recruit a Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership to an existing team of dedicated liaison officers, and to develop and maintain integrated safer communities initiatives, delivering efficient, empathic and effective service to our clientele.

  • senior leadership experience as part of a leadership team
  • proven experience in the management of incidents of trauma, sexual assault or domestic violence
  • the ability to provide advice and direction regarding complex matters including crisis intervention, comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning
  • experience within a large organisation to navigate and influence across complex systems
  • experience working within governance, management and operational structures and processes
  • strong operational focus with experience in quality improvement, quality assurance

Student Support Services helps students to achieve their educational goals at University through personal, financial and instrumental support, and through encouraging development of independence and personal resilience. The Student Support Services team responds to complex student presentations and provides advice regarding policy and procedure developments and the likely impact on student wellbeing, student engagement in academic and co-curricular activities, and student success in lifelong learning.

The Safer Communities Office responds to disclosures relating to alleged current and historical sexual misconduct and domestic violence affecting members of the University community, offering informed care to complainants and respondents. Staff use a wide range of approaches and interventions in line with current legislation, stepped care and the promotion of wellbeing.
