Following a successful program grant awarded by Barts Charity on adrenal research, applications are invited for a post of bioinformatician within the William Harvey Research Institute at Bart’s and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). The position is within the Centre for Endocrinology and the Centre for Translational Bioinformatics, based at the Charterhouse Square Campus of QMUL in the heart of City of London.

The post holder will be involved in three interconnected projects within a program grant designed to improve diagnosis and treatment for patient with adrenal disease; Reducing morbidity and mortality in succinate dehydrogenase gene mutation carriers (Prof Paul Chapple), Improved genetic diagnosis of primary adrenal insufficiency (Prof Lou Metherell), Adrenocortical carcinomas: searching for novel targets for effective treatment modalities (Dr Leonardo Guasti). Main duties for this will be to design pipelines for analysis of transcriptomic and large genomic data sets. They will also perform pathway analysis and contribute to analysis of proteomic and metabolomics datasets but will be encouraged to formulate their own scientific questions arising from the data generated within these projects. They will work with geneticists, molecular and cell biologists, as well as joining a team of 6 other bioinformaticians lead by Dr Mike Barnes.

The post is full time for three years. Starting salary will be in the range (£39,434 - £44,015) per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, with a pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
