Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in the Department of Media Arts.

The Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, wishes to recruit a lecturer in video game development to teach on its innovative new degree BA Video Games, Art & Design based at its Egham campus. The appointment will be made at Lecturer grade 8, with start point varying according to experience and qualifications.

The post will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to teach on an exciting new degree and to play key roles in its development, shaping content and structure, and working closely with the student cohort. The appointee will be specifically responsible for delivering courses in games development, platform development and contribute to courses that foster student’s entrepreneurial skills. The post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a new venture in a prestigious academic institution, with Royal Holloway placed 24th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide national rankings for 2019, and the Department of Media Arts ranked in the top ten for the subject in REF 2014 and ranked 16th for Media in the Guardian University League Tables 2020. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues in the Department of Media Arts and the School of Creative and Digital Arts to integrate the new BAs within new and existing academic structures in a period of exciting development for the College.

The successful candidate will have experience of games development in an industrial context, and preferable of teaching development at undergraduate or CFE level, with demonstrable skills in a range of games engines suitable for undergraduate students. The job holder will report to the Head of Department of Media Arts, undertaking appropriate managerial and administrative duties alongside their teaching. They will be encouraged to take part in the activities of the new £10m StoryFutures and StoryFutures Academy: National Centre for Immersive Storytelling initiatives held by the Department of Media Arts and led by Prof. James Bennett. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students and colleagues.
