The School of Biosciences is part of The College of Life and Environmental Sciences, which is led by Professor Laura Green. There are a further three Schools within the College; Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences; Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences; and Psychology. The School of Biosciences is host to 60 academic staff, including some teaching-focused academics; 64 postdoctoral researchers, including Birmingham Fellows; and 130 graduate research students. There are lively and diverse undergraduate and postgraduate communities that benefit from the high levels of innovation within teaching and learning. 

The Head of the School of Biosciences is responsible for the academic and financial leadership of the School. A member of the College Board, they promote and sustain the highest levels of excellence across its activities as well as working with the other three Heads of School to drive forward the strategic direction of the College and the University overall. Applicants should be established academics with research expertise in areas that complement or add to the School’s current activities. They will have proven leadership capabilities and the ability to demonstrate vision and insight for the continued excellent development of the School across its full breadth of disciplines. The Head of School will be appointed as a Professor and the terms of office for the post are 4 years, with an option to extend.
