We have an exciting opportunity for a talented medical statistician (or a closely related field with strong quantitative skills and programming experience) to develop, evaluate and apply statistical methodology to examine causal questions.

Part of the MRC IEU (Programme 3: Statistical methods for causal analyses), the post is an opportunity to develop statistical methods and software tools to improve causal analysis, in particular using instrumental variable methods with time-varying exposures. A particular challenge is to ensure that the developed methods and software are accessible to users with limited statistical experience, and that the methods can be feasibly applied to large-scale datasets such as UK Biobank and the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC, www.bris.ac.uk/alspac).

The successful applicant will have a PhD (or equivalent research experience) in medical statistics or a related quantitative discipline and a track record of research, including experience of developing statistical methods/software tools and causal inference methodology. They will be interested in methods in medical statistics and using simulation studies to investigate the performance of statistical methods. Experience in analysing large datasets and using instrumental variable methods would be an advantage.
