Assistant Professors in School Education

Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education (NUGSE) invites applicants to join our international faculty in our vision of becoming a world-class center for postgraduate teaching and research in education. Due to expansion, NUGSE is recruiting Assistant Professors to join our faculty by January 1, 2020. 

The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Education with research and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: school leadership, curriculum, education policy, teacher development, teacher learning, professional identity, parental involment, assessment and evaluation, educational change and reforms, educational research design (quantative), and early childhood education. A demonstrated ability to conduct large-scale quantitative analysis (such as international and national surveys and assessments) is an advantage.  

In addition, candidates should demonstrate a good record and/or a very promising record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals and the potential in attracting competitive funding. Experience of teaching at the postgraduate level and supervising postgraduate dissertations to completion is an asset. 

Responsibilities include: teaching courses in specialization areas in our M.Sc. Educational Leadership in School Education Program; supervising postgraduate students; actiively participating in the development of new programs of study; maintaining an exceptionally active research agenda; contributing to the development of NUGSE and NU through committee service; providing active leadership in professional organizations; and contributing to the wider agenda of education reform in Kazakhstan through teaching, research, and community engagement. The successful candidates must possess high level of collegiality and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

NUGSE began providing its first Master’s and Ph.D. programs in September 2013, supported by its strategic partners, the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. Still expanding, NUGSE currently offers an M.Sc. in Educational Leadership, an M.A. in Multilingual Education, and a Ph.D. in Education. The M.Sc. in Educational Leadership offers specializations in School Education, Inclusive Education, and Higher Education.  NUGSE plays a key role in driving education reform in Kazakhstan, and faculty members who are keen to make a difference through work with schools, other universities and the Ministry of Education and Science are especially welcome. The School also houses a Research Institute and a Department for Continuing Education and plays a major role nationally in conducting educational research and advising on policy. 

Conditions of Employment:  
The appointment is on an initial 3-year renewable contract and will be subject to annual performance reviews. An attractive remuneration package will include:
