JOB PURPOSE:

Provide clinical consultation, individual counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention and on-call services, and outreach programming for the Stanford student body.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Provide a wide range of direct clinical services to students, and work with faculty and administrators in consultation, outreach, and other collaborative initiatives.
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient mental health services and programs to a diverse student population.
  • Provide initial clinical consultation, individual brief therapy
  • Lead therapy groups and clinical workshops
  • Manage referrals to community providers as indicated
  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and management to students of concern or in crisis; assess need for higher levels care
  • Evaluate and respond to emergency situations; provide consultation to campus for urgent/crisis situations.
  • Work with students requiring higher levels of care, including participation in discharge planning and management of referrals as indicated.
  • Develop and provide outreach services through participation in educational programming, liaison relationships with community centers and campus partners, and other activities as needed.
  • Participate in CAPS and Vaden Health Center meetings and development activities; complete special projects as assigned
  • Conduct seminar/rotation training.
  • Support the training needs for psychology and psychiatry trainees

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in social work or psychology or related field and two years of post-degree experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in clinical skills in evaluation, crisis intervention, and case management.
  • Proven ability to interact with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (oral and written)

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in California

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • 3 or more years of post-licensure work history and previous experience working in college counseling centers
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Substance abuse treatments
    • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
    • Eating disorder treatments
    • On-call/crisis work (including willingness to be part of a weekly day-call
    • Development and provision of clinical groups and workshops
  • Work or lived experience with a range of underrepresented minority groups. Particular needs exist at present for providers with expertise in serving the following student communities:
    • Veteran First-generation/low-income
    • Asian (Mandarin-speaking)
    • Diverse gender and sexual identities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently sit and perform desk based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, and write by hand.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully; sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, operate foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
