AREA SUPERVISOR FOR LARGE ANIMAL TECHNICAL SERVICESDivision of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to supervise and coordinate large animal clinical and technical activities.  Will coordinate the efforts of veterinary technicians who provide colony management, clinical, and technical services to investigators; serve as a liaison between DCM and investigators using large animals; and supervise technical efforts to promote compliance with IACUC guidelines.  Responsibilities include supervising and coordinating technical support schedules for routine clinical and research procedures involving large animal colonies; providing oversight and/or backup for collecting samples, anesthesia monitoring, maintenance and supply stocking of procedure/operating room spaces, tracking test results, notifying investigators of relevant updates, arranging animal transfers, initiating and/or cessation of breeding, and initiating treatments; supervising and coordinating technical support for routine semiannual exams; supervising clinical support for routine clinical rounds; contacting investigators, informing them of educational programs, and providing training in animal handling procedures, under direction of veterinarians; supervising and coordinating technical efforts to promote compliance with IACUC guidelines by researchers using animals; scheduling, evaluating and adjusting work volumes for veterinary technicians providing colony management and technical services; working directly with labs using large animals to assess needs on an on-going basis; introducing new personnel to DCM policies regarding animal care and use in research; approving weekly payroll and coordinating staff vacation time to provide adequate staffing at all times; and performing--with input from veterinarian--annual work performance review for veterinary technicians. 

Job Requirements

REQUIREDthree years’ applicable experience in a laboratory animal research setting, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and animal handling experience.  Undergraduate degree in animal science, biology, or related field preferred; as is LAT certification and supervisory experience.  Applicants must include a cover letter with their application material.  Job #17622
