About the role

The School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS) are seeking to develop and strengthen their internationally regarded engineering research activity as part of the School’s on-going investment in research excellence. The role will involve conducting and publishing high quality original research, designing and delivering teaching and contributing to the vision and leadership of the School.

Applicants with research interests in the areas of engineering solid mechanics, energy systems and thermo-fluids engineering are particularly encouraged.

A commitment to high quality education is essential to support our thriving undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes. We are looking in particular for candidates with experience in developing and supervising chemical engineering group design projects.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering related to solid mechanics or energy systems or thermo-fluids engineering or related discipline, and/or relevant professional qualification and/or equivalent professional experience, together with a track-record of high quality research in the field of Mechanical Engineering at a national and ideally international level, including publications in renowned journals.

  • full refereed journal papers listed clearly (in reverse chronological order)
  • indicate the 4 papers you believe are the most significant to date
  • research grant income.
  • a brief statement on both your research and teaching aspirations (1 page max each)

The post is a full time, permanent post with salary range £37,411 to £51,899. A generous academic support package will be available. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, interest-free season ticket and pension scheme.

Additional Information

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
