About our Team
The School of Engineering & Physical Sciences has an international teaching and research reputation and close connection with the professional and industrial world of science, engineering and technology.
We deliver teaching across 6 programmes: Chemistry; Physics; Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering and Brewing & Distilling. In the 2016 National Student Survey Heriot-Watt University was ranked 35th in the UK and joint 3rd in Scotland with the University of Glasgow. 90% of our students were satisfied overall with their course in over half of the University's subject areas. Detailed Description
Electronic & Computer Engineering discipline of the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences (EPS) for a 1 year maternity cover. We are delivering courses in our Edinburgh campus as well as at our partner institution Xidian University in China.
You will deliver and assess courses in Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering and will collaborate with colleagues in our off campus programmes.
The role will also include research, academic administration and course development and enhancement.
A first degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering or cognate discipline essential, with an MSc or PhD in Electronic Engineering or cognate discipline desirable.

Key duties and responsibilities
The role holder will contribute to the teaching (lectures, tutorials and practical labs) of up to 4 courses (modules) to honours and Masters level covering topics a range of areas such as analogue/digital/power electronics and undertake assessment of coursework and examinations, under the supervision of senior academic staff. Instruct, supervise and assess Honours and Master students projects.
Undertake basic administrative duties in connection with teaching and examinations. The role holder will be required to register as a University teacher.

Education, qualifications and experience
Essential Criteria
- Deep knowledge of topics in the area of Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering or cognate discipline.
- Experience of student practical project supervision
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to prepare clearly written and presented learning and teaching materials
- Ability to engage with students in the delivery of lectures and tutorials.
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Excellent team working and communication skills
- Ability to work to deadlines
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of undergraduate teaching in Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering or cognate discipline.
- Experience in the preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials and web based assessment.
- MSc of PhD in Electronic Engineering or cognate discipline
- Familiarity with learning management software such as Blackboard, or equivalent.
- Experience in web-based learning.
- Research experience in any of the active areas of the research in the Institute in Signals, Systems and Sensors (ISSS)
