We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Health Economics with significant expertise in health economics and health services research methods and interested in working on a range of topics, to lead the Health Economics Team within the National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health and Care West (NIHR CLAHRC West). The post-holder would also be a member of the Health Economics Bristol (HEB) research group. HEB is a team of researchers at the University of Bristol who study the economics of health and healthcare. Our work is focussed on three key research programmes: (1) Economics of health and care across the life course, (2) Improving efficiency and equity in health care, and (3) Methods for applied health economics. Our team includes more than 25 researchers and PhD students and we have established a large portfolio of research projects funded by the NIHR, MRC, Wellcome Trust, EU and others. We aim to develop the careers of all members of our team and to help them fulfil their potential.

NIHR CLAHRC West is a partnership between the organisations and individuals that provide, plan and support health and social care in the West of England alongside the public that use these services and local Universities, each with a world leading reputation in research to support better health and social care services and improvements in patient and public health. We conduct collaborative research and implementation with partners in the NHS, councils, voluntary organisations and Universities, with the aim of improving health and care. Research and implementation projects in the four research themes are delivered by CLAHRC research staff, in crosscutting methodological themes such as Health economics. An implementation strategy enables translation of our research findings into practice and policy decisions, and to integrate research and service delivery, our Public and Community Involvement, Engagement and Participation (PCIEP) strategy ensures that PCIEP is embedded in CLAHRC West projects, and a Training and capacity building (TCB) programme will build research capacity and capability both within the CLAHRC and across our regional health and care systems.

The post-holder is responsible for designing and delivering relevant research in their disciplinary domain working with the CLAHRC Health Economics Theme lead, Professor Will Hollingworth. They will also provide support for junior researchers, work closely with the other theme-leads, NIHR CLAHRC West Director, and cross cutting methodological team leads, deliver training/teaching, submit proposals for external research funding, and write up the results of the research for a wide range of audiences.

The post will be based in the University of Bristol with funding available until September 2024, and is 1 FTE starting ideally in October 2019.
