The Centre for Psychiatry, Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine at Queen Mary invites applications from scholars of international distinction for an appointment at the rank of Chair in Psychological Medicine with a focus on Chronic Disease and Mental Illness.

The Centre for Psychiatry is at the forefront of research internationally into the prevention and treatment of mental illness through biopsychosocial mechanisms. We are particularly active in programmes of research on public mental health, health promotion, prevention and early intervention. Programmes include work in health services, and population studies of complex risk and protective factors, and health inequalities. We have an international reputation for cultural, social and environmental epidemiology and trials of complex interventions. This is a new post to meet the needs of our population with multiple morbidities at East London Foundation NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) and to contribute to the delivery of high-quality research and teaching at Queen Mary University of London, specifically within the Centre for Psychiatry.

Candidates should have a PhD in psychiatry, psychology or a related field with a particular focus on chronic disease (for example, genetics, statistics, epidemiology or related discipline) and be an internationally recognised expert on one or more aspects of mental illnesses. The post is indefinite. The salary will be in the range £77,913 - £105,042 per annum depending on seniority. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a defined contribution pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
