The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Chair in Bioengineering in order to establish Bioengineering as a new academic interdisciplinary field rooted in the School and spanning across the University. The Chair will use their expertise and track record in Bioengineering, combined with the existing strengths in the School of Engineering and other schools, primarily School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, School of Biological Sciences and School of Natural and Computing Sciences, to become the locus of interdisciplinary research in this area, and hence contribute to diversifying teaching and research within the School of Engineering.  

The role of Chair in Bioengineering offers an opportunity to shape this new academic field at the University of Aberdeen for many years to come. Appointment to Chair requires evidence of strong leadership, especially in research, and an outstanding record of achievements. This position is supported with an associated lectureship, which is also currently advertised. 

We are looking for an academic who has experience with leading interdisciplinary research which integrates engineering and sciences relevant for biological and biomedical systems. The successful candidate has an outstanding track record of high quality publications in leading international research journals and a proven ability to secure substantial funding from external sources as evidenced by the holding of research grants as principal investigator or significant contribution to successful research proposals. They also have experience with and a strong motivation for excellent, innovative teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
