Ours is an extraordinary educational environment and because we specialise in identifying and developing individual potential, you can be confident you'll receive all the help and encouragement you need to build a rewarding career with lots of opportunities to progress.

Our combined higher and further education offering is spread over campuses in Derby, Buxton, Leek and Chesterfield and we have some of the best university facilities in the UK, investing more than £200 million in facilities in the last 10 years. We are now among the top 20 universities in the UK for teaching quality and have risen six places overall in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide league table to joint 13th in the country for teaching quality; an excellent achievement and a reflection of our Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold Award. We are ranked as one of the UK’s top 30 universities in The Guardian’s University Guide for 2019 and among the world’s top 250 modern universities in the Times Higher Education Young University rankings, and we were recently presented with the Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year Award at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs).

We remain in the top 10 universities for the highest number of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships being delivered. Our research is wide-ranging and internationally recognised, and our research teams are working on projects that are:

  • helping businesses become more efficient and sustainable;
  • improving the lives of young people;
  • predicting and reducing climate change;
  • helping to conserve our local heritage and environment;
  • developing new technologies, such as artificial intelligence;
  • supporting the transformation of health and social care services;
  • making a significant contribution to national and international policy agendas.

The Role
As a Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Management, you are expected to have expert knowledge and applied research interests in the Leadership and Management subject domain. Relevant industrial experience, professional qualifications and experience of delivering high-quality teaching in HE is highly desirable, as is knowledge of an associated subject area such as Change Management, Coaching, HRM or Organizational Behaviour, and the ability to support our knowledge transfer and enterprise activities with industry.

You will be expected to have gained a high level of successful teaching experience within Higher Education and be able to demonstrate how your pedagogic practice engages student learning, a positive student experience and addresses future expectations of students within the workplace. Additionally, you should have evidence of programme and module leadership, including at postgraduate level study.

You should be able to provide evidence of your significant knowledge and expertise of Leadership from a range of perspectives and how this integrates with and informs the business context and climate. It is anticipated that your own research will further contribute to teaching and assist in the development of new insights into Leadership within organisations. You will be expected to contribute to an identified research cluster within the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences and work on research both on an individual and collaborative basis.
