Durham University is seeking two motivated and technically skilled individuals to join our technical service delivery function within Computing and Information Services as a Microsoft Service Monitoring Technical Specialist, and as a Senior Technical Analyst for Microsoft Platforms. As Durham University delivers against its ambitious strategy for 2017-2027 this is an exciting opportunity to meet the needs of the modern institution. The successful applicants will join a highly competent team deploying a range of Microsoft and virtual technologies to deliver outstanding user facing services and internal administrative functions.
As part of the team the role holders will share responsibility for the management and development of computing services to support Durham University in delivering world class teaching and research. Both roles will be expected to support, development and maintenance our current services and develop new, more agile ways of working.
Day to day activities will include the installation, configuration, management, monitoring and upgrade of Microsoft and VMware Server services for the University, covering staff and students. The successful candidates will work with subject matter experts across our academic departments and with colleagues who support our network and Linux estate.
The Microsoft Service Monitoring Technical Specialist will contribute to the design, build, configuration, and support of Microsoft Server and Desktop services to meet the existing and future business needs of the University. They will require a high degree of technical knowledge in relation to the Windows environment, coupled with a working knowledge of virtualisation, experience of customer service delivery, and the ability to convert complex research and business specifications into technical delivery. In addition, the Senior Technical Analyst for Microsoft Platforms will have an extensive knowledge of Microsoft System Centre Operations Manager, backed by Microsoft qualifications, and including configuration of both vendor and 3rd party management packs.
