The University of Bristol is one of the UK's leading research universities.

We are committed to the highest standards of care and welfare for animals used in biomedical research. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a C grade animal technician at the University of Bristol.

This post offers the opportunity for the successful candidates to develop a rewarding career in animal technology, working within both conventional and barrier facilities and with a range of species (including rodents and aquatic species). The successful candidates must be able to undertake responsibility for the welfare of the animals in their care and contribute to the strong culture of care expected from all staff working with laboratory animals at the University of Bristol.

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated team player, keen to learn. Ideally, you may have some experience of laboratory animal care and husbandry in a research setting as well as entry level qualifications in animal care. You should have a good grasp of animal biology and good written and verbal communication skills. Working for the University can provide the opportunity to develop yourself not only as technician but also as an individual. In the ASU, we work in teams of like-minded people and support each other in providing the very best in animal care.

On a day to day basis you will carry out routine husbandry for laboratory species with appropriate practical training and supervision. You will also be expected to undertake study towards the IAT level 2 qualification, or the next level if you already hold level 2.

Weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required on a rota basis. You may be expected to work in any of the University of Bristol animal facilitates and deliver items between them.

For any informal enquiries please contact Gareth Gough - Gareth.Gough@bristol.ac.uk or Nicola Watts -nicola.watts@bristol.ac.uk

The deadline for applications is 11.59pm on Tuesday 2nd April 2019.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
