The College of Social Science has grown substantially and is entering an important stage of its development. With a new PVC, Professor Duncan French, recently in post, the College is seeking to appoint a Director of Operations to support its ambitions and growth targets. The College is made up of six Schools: Education, Health & Social Care, Law, Psychology, Social & Political Sciences, Sport & Exercise Science, and a Professional Development Centre. It is supported by an administrative structure, over which the new Director of Operations would take the lead.

The Director of Operations will work to ensure the administrative structure is able to respond swiftly, effectively and efficiently to fast-moving external factors that affect all our activities, including in matters of teaching and learning, research, external income generation, and civic engagement. It requires a dynamic, forward-looking and problem-solving administrative framework to support its academic and wider external engagement activity, which is equally alert to regulatory priorities, external challenges, and the student experience.

The Director of Operations will play a key role as part of the College Management Team, working closely with the PVC / Head of College to identify new opportunities for the University. They will play a pivotal part in the growth and diversification of the College of Social Science, whilst maintaining clear and effective operational management and regulatory (including information) compliance. As part of this, the post holder will be expected to take the lead in key strategic projects, including but not limited to: project management of space, estates and technology projects; marketing and international growth; risk management; and the planned expansion of external income generation.

Acting under the general direction of the PVC / Head of College, the Director of Operations will be responsible for the co-ordination of business planning, and will lead on monitoring of progress, including the achievement of College targets, strategic thinking around the Risk Register, as well as seeking to continuously improve administrative processes.
