Job description
The University of Central Lancashire is looking to appoint a research associate to conduct research into applied unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology for aerospace applications in areas such as 'civic drone use' and 'improving public health and safety'. The successful appointee will be based within UCLan's Engineering School and will work with industry partners and UAV end users to gather requirements, research, develop and demonstrate novel UAV and to a lesser extent UXV technology solutions. Publication of research findings is essential, and the major focus of the role is to ensure research is adopted and used, gathering evidence of impact.
A good working knowledge of UAV systems, components, technology and operating rules and procedures is required, in order to develop integrated systems including sensor integration and software design. Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes will also be an advantage. The role will involve supporting delivery of proof of concept technology demonstrations. Candidates with industrial as well as academic backgrounds will be considered provided an appetite and track record of research is demonstrated.
The successful applicant will have a post graduate qualification in Engineering plus relevant professional qualifications or PhD in a related area.
Self-motivated and confident, the successful applicant will have a good analytical, mathematical & programming ability as well as being able to write high quality publications for internationally recognised journals.
