Job Summary

This is a dual-cluster RN position which involves staffing assignments in the Adult General Care Cluster and the Adult Telemetry Cluster. The home unit will be Adult Telemetry Cluster and PTO will be determined from the home unit.  The RN can be scheduled in both clusters, based on the staffing needs of the units and will be expected to staff on any of the units listed below as needed.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities of the Adult Telemetry Cluster

To provide safe and effective nursing care as assigned to patients in each of the 7 adult units requiring cardiac monitoring. This includes caring for patients from surgical, medical and various cardiac stepdown units. To determine functional status and initiate appropriate action. Report significant changes in patient condition. Provide nursing care to patients including the administration of medications and treatments ordered and assist with diagnostic procedures. Assess and monitor patient status, including response to medications and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Identify problems presented by patients and families and initiate appropriate intervention. Operate and monitor patient care equipment. Document patient care, including changes in patient status. Identify needs and educate patients and families about their disease process and the application of the therapeutic plan. Formulate individual care plans and evaluate nursing care. Participate in ensuring patient safety. Participate in health team activities.  Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities of the Adult General Care Cluster

Provide nursing care to a variety of patients, ages young adult to elderly.Floating among the Adult General units requires familiarity with multiple medical diagnoses, to include but not limited to: GI medicine, Pulmonary, Rheumatology, Hematology, and Oncology, Trauma/Orthopedic Surgery, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Renal Transplant, Otolaryngology, Endocrine/Plastic and Oral Surgery, Family Medicine, and Dermatology.Family centered care is provided through collaboration with all members of the health care team in order to meet the complex care requirements of the adult population.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Nursing at Michigan offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits! 

Salary range for Registered Nurses- $63,918.40- $101,108.80

  • CSR RN's will receive an additional hourly differential of $2.50/hour and will not be required to work holidays.
  • Evening Shift Differential- $2.35 per hour
  • Night Shift Differential- $3.20 per hour
  • Weekend Differential- $1.75 per hour

Required Qualifications*

  • Must have a current Michigan Registered Nurse License.
  • Must have two (2) years or more of recent RN experience in their area of expertise
  • Must be able to pass the CSR EKG exam with at least an 80%

Desired Qualifications*

  • Current ACLS Certification
  • Candidate should demonstrate expertise in communication and problem solving skills within all levels of the health care team as evidenced by interviews, documentation, writing skills, and references.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere utilizing effective delegation skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to be accountable and dependable as evidenced by completion of mandatories and unit based competencies.
  • Experience floating to multiple units helpful.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office and Outlook
  • BSN preferred.

Work Schedule

Hours: 36hrs (0.9)Shift: Nights, 12hrs

Location: Adult Telemetry and Adult General Care Units

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
