The School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing (SATM) is a leading provider of postgraduate level engineering education, research and technology support. At the forefront of aerospace technology for over 60 years, we deliver multi-disciplinary solutions to the complex challenges facing the aviation industry.

As Research Fellow you will focus on the development of novel technologies for implementation in aircraft cockpit operations to assist pilots. You will be integrating novel cognitive computing methods into the engineering flight simulation facilities at Cranfield. This will require you to develop software that will allow the integration of new sensors in the flight simulators and also, develop and execute test scenarios with line pilots. This role is sponsored by the E-Pilots CleanSky2 project.

You will be educated to a doctoral level (or equivalent) and will be able to carry out independent research as well as collaborative research with multiple partner institutions. It is essential that you have a PhD (or close to completion) in either aerospace engineering or in the field of cognitive computing or equivalent. A strong track record in software development, either focusing on modelling and simulation of complex systems (such as aircraft) or in cognitive computing is essential. Interest in aviation and/or aircraft operations is highly desirable.
