Mae Prifysgol Bangor wedi ei lleoli yn un o ardaloedd prydferthaf Prydain, rhwng Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri ac Ynys Môn, ac mae wedi chwarae rhan ganolog yn narpariaeth addysgol yr ardal ers ei sefydlu ym 1884. Gyda thua 11,000 o fyfyrwyr a 2,000 o aelodau staff, mae'r brifysgol yn cynnig amrywiaeth eang o ddarpariaeth academaidd wedi ei rhannu rhwng tri choleg. Mae'r brifysgol yn falch o'r sylw mae'n ei roi i iaith a diwylliant Cymru, a'r ffaith mae hi sydd â'r dewis ehangaf o ddarpariaeth gyfrwng Cymraeg mewn unrhyw brifysgol, a'i chysylltiad clos â diwylliant unigryw cymunedau'r ardal. 

Mae ymchwil yn elfen gref yn y brifysgol, sydd yn y 40 uchaf yn y DU am ymchwil yn ôl y Fframwaith Rhagoriaeth Ymchwil diwethaf, mae dysgu yn y brifysgol wedi ennill Gwobr Aur yn y Fframwaith Rhagoriaeth Addysgu ac mae'r Arolwg Myfyrwyr Cenedlaethol yn gosod y brifysgol ymhlith y gorau yn y DU. Mae'n sefydliad rhyngwladol gyda chymuned fawr a bywiog o fyfyrwyr tramor, mae'r brifysgol hefyd wedi bod yn datblygu ei phresenoldeb  dramor, gan gynnwys sefydlu Coleg Bangor Tsieina yn Hunan a chysylltiadau newydd yn Tashkent a Singapore.   

Mae'r brifysgol bellach yn chwilio am is-ganghellor newydd.  Bydd gweledigaeth strategol ac uchelgais yn elfennau allweddol o'r hyn rydym yn chwilio amdano yn yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus, ynghyd ag ymroddiad llwyr i werthoedd a chenhadaeth y brifysgol. Bydd yn hanfodol bod yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus yn deall cyfraniad unigryw'r brifysgol at Gymru a'i diwylliant. Bydd gan yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus arddull rheoli gynhwysol, ynghyd â sgiliau cyfathrebu cryf, craffter ariannol a'r gallu i gyfathrebu ac ysbrydoli'r staff, y myfyrwyr a'r gymuned ehangach. Mae dealltwriaeth o amgylchedd polisi ehangach y weinyddiaeth ddatganoledig yng Nghymru yn hanfodol hefyd.

Located in one of the most beautiful regions of the UK, between the Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey, Bangor University has occupied a central role in the educational provision of the area since its foundation in 1884. With approximately 11,000 students and 2,000 staff, the university offers a wide range of academic provision grouped in three Colleges. The university is proud of its focus on Welsh language and culture, with the widest range of Welsh-language provision of any university, and its deep engagement with the unique culture of the region’s communities. 

Research is strong at the university, which is ranked in the top 40 in the UK according to the last Research Excellence Framework. The University’s teaching has gained the highest Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework and the National Student Survey places the university among the very best in the UK. An international institution, there is a large and vibrant community of overseas students, the university has also been developing a significant presence overseas, including the establishment of Bangor College China in Hunan and new relationships in Tashkent and Singapore.     

The University is now seeking a new Vice-Chancellor. Strategic vision and ambition will be key elements sought in the successful candidate, together with a deep commitment to the values and mission of the university. An appreciation of its distinctive role in Wales and its culture will be essential. The successful candidate will have an inclusive management style, accompanied by strong communication skills, financial acumen and the ability to engage with, and inspire, the staff, students and wider community. An understanding of the wider policy environment of the devolved administration in Wales is also vital.
