The University of Bristol are looking to appoint a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Spatial Statistics.

This position is part of a five-year European Research Council grant (GlobalMass, www.globalmass.eu) including four other positions, which together tackle the challenge of assessing and predicting sea level rise, globally. A better understanding of sea level rise is crucial in the context of climate change, as millions of people live in parts of the world that are threatened by future coastal flooding.

This position is responsible for the statistical framework that combines a wide range of data sets, including both ground-based and satellite, and simulations from physical models, into sea level rise assessments.  Applicants need to be familiar with modern practice in large-scale spatial statistics such as the SPDE approach to Gaussian Markov Random Fields, or the Integrated Nested Laplace Approximation approach, implemented in R.

The University of Bristol has world-class expertise in both sea level research and computational statistics.  This position is a unique opportunity for an early career statistician to develop theory and practice at the cutting edge of modern statistics, and to contribute to a complex but crucial scientific question.
