• Fantastic opportunity for a Research Assistant to provide technical and operational support to the Translational Immunology Group
• Located at the Charles Perkins Centre, Camperdown Campus
• Fixed Term, full-time until December 2020 and base salary $67K p.a plus superannuation

About the opportunity 

This role provides technical and operational support to the Translational Immunology Group at the Charles Perkins Centre. The Translational Immunology Group studies the immune system in preclinical and clinical settings. This role will support research funded by grants in the areas of:

1. Cellular therapy for stem cell transplantation and its effects upon immune reconstitution and incidence of graft-versus-host disease.
2. Analysis of human immune parameters in patients with conditions including cancer and autoimmune disease.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for preparing relevant materials in collaboration with team members, performing fundamental aspects of research work, and facilitating the efficient operation of the research laboratory by providing essential technical and operational support.

The experimental requirements of this position include processing of clinical samples, use of a small animal model (handling, treatment, monitoring), and general laboratory duties. The Research Assistant will be required to keep thorough records, use and maintain clinical databases, and contribute to laboratory administration.

• experience and proficiency in small animal handling, injection, monitoring animal welfare, and tissue collection.
• undertakes specific research activity as part of the broader Research agenda
• conducts data analysis, prepares reporting and presentations and carries out literature searches for the work area
• maintains research laboratory, oversees operations and student research activity in the work area
• provides research administrative support for the work area
• ensures that ethics guidelines, standards and WHS requirements are met in the work area
• coordinates the development and submission of research publications for the work area.
