The Survey Statistician/Methodologist is a member of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey team within the Melbourne Institute: Applied Economic and Social Research which sits within the portfolio of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

About the role

This is an exciting role within the HILDA Survey team which focuses on the design and management of the HILDA Survey, providing insights into a wide range of economic, social and demographic issues.

As a Survey Statistician/Methodologist, you will report to and work under the broad direction of the HILDA Director and HILDA Deputy Director (Survey Methodology).

You will be expected to provide survey methods and research support including maintaining and enhancing the complex survey support systems and, undertaking statistical analysis and contributing to the research agenda of the HILDA Survey team. You will also be expected to pursue research opportunities (up to 0.2FTE) to present and publish work in your area of expertise.

To be successful in the role you will be an experienced statistician/researcher with exceptional organizational and time management skills, the ability to work within a team and be a self-starter.

About you

  • Strong empirical and statistical skills with honours degree in statistics, data science, economics, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent written and analytical skills including the ability to conduct critical appraisal of relevant literature and write academic reports of publishable standard.
  • High level quantitative skills, including the ability to design and describe appropriate statistical analyses and to use statistical software to manage and analyse large scale complex data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team to achieve project goals and meet agreed deadlines.

A police check is a requirement of the appointment.
