Define educational excellence within the MOD

The world is changing, and at the MOD, we are ready to defend the British people, our land and our assets. Facing complex and varied challenges ranging from state threats to cyber terrorism, we are committed to ensuring our armed forces are fully prepared for their roles. A key element to success is the Defence Academy (DefAc), providing pan-Defence further and higher education across technology, military strategy, command, leadership, business skills and international engagement sectors – and it is here that you could play a part.

As a member of the senior management team you will be instrumental in helping us to develop the business. Responsible for providing the intellectual edge to deliver success in both operations and leadership, the DefAc is now going through a period of transformation.  We are reviewing our portfolio and structure to ensure our education continues to meet the current and future needs of the MOD, wider public sector and international military. Overseeing a team of more than 75 people, you will support our position as a world-leading Professional Military Education (PME) provider of choice. You will implement plans for a coherent course design and development capability, for improved blended and e-learning options, and a bespoke Defence education research capability.

This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as you will be promoting the DefAc’s educational products and plans across the MOD, government, industry and to international military organisations. This will facilitate your business development goals and ensure both learners and employers recognise the personal and organisational benefits of DefAc education. You will ensure instructional staff are properly trained for their roles, and we expect you to have previously managed a diverse and relevant education portfolio with experience in FE/HE educational development. With good business and commercial acumen, you will be identify and explore realistic opportunities for new business and improvements in process and delivery across the business. Educated to Masters level, you will be a motivational leader able to work effectively and collaboratively at all levels.

We are proud to offer a progressive workplace, and we are keen to sustain a high level of career satisfaction for all MOD employees. We want to help you achieve your goals, so to explore the potential that exists within this dynamic environment, get in touch, and help us develop and promote the huge wealth of educational talent that exists at the DefAc.

Closing date: 6 January 2019.
