Tsinghua University, located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing, was established in 1911 on the site of "Qing Hua Yuan" - a former royal garden of the Qing Dynasty. 

As one of China’s most renowned universities, Tsinghua has 19 schools and 55 departments with faculties in science, engineering, humanities, law, medicine, history, philosophy, economics, management, education and art. The University has now over 45,000 students, including 15,600 undergraduates and 29,500 graduate students. More than 60% of the top ten students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities of China have chosen Tsinghua for their undergraduate study. There are more than 2800 international students from 120 nations studying at Tsinghua.

The University has some 3,000 faculty members, including 45 Chinese Academy of Science members,33 Chinese Academy of Engineering members. Tsinghua holds the largest numbers of the Key National Laboratories, of national awards in science and technology, of research funds, and also of the patents authorized over the years.

Tsinghua has also been recognized as one of the top universities in the world. It is ranked 26th in the world (1st in mainland China) in Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2015.
