University of Southampton - Helping the aged

January 7, 2010

Researchers are to examine the future supply and demand of health and social care for the UK's ageing population. Experts from four University of Southampton research centres - the Centre for Research on Ageing; the Economic and Social Research Council Centre for Population Change; the Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems; and the Institute for Complex Systems Simulation - will work together for the first time to collate and analyse data on factors influencing health and social care. These include population, ageing, disability, disease, new technologies, income and wealth. Findings from the five-year, £3.3 million project, supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, will be used to inform policymakers and to help make decisions about future social care provision.
