Leslie Hannah, dean of City University's business school has been appointed chief executive of Aldridge Management College.

The members of the new Statistics Commission are: Colette Bowe, head of Western Pooled Funds at Fleming Asset Management and member of the Council of Queen Mary and Westfield College, London; Sir Kenneth Calman, vice-chancellor and warden of the University of Durham; Patricia Hodgson, director of public policy at the BBC; David Rhind, vice-chancellor and principal of City University, London; Janet Trewsdale, senior lecturer at Queen's University, Belfast; Derek Wanless, chairman of the National Forum for Management Education and Development; and Martin Weale, director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. Sir John Kingman, former vice-chancellor of Bristol University, is chairman.

Sir Martin Harris, former chair of the CVCP, has been appointed chair of a review of student careers services.

Norman Bennett, director of finance at the Royal Hospitals, Belfast has been appointed director of finance at Queen's University, Belfast, from July.

Kenneth Medhurst, former professor in European studies at the University of Bradford, has been installed as Canon Theologian at Bradford Cathedral.

Zhanfeng Cui, fellow of Keble College and reader in engineering science at the University of Oxford, has been appointed to the Donald Pollock professorship of chemical engineering from October.

Nigel Malin, former professor in community care at the University of Derby, has been appointed professor in health services research at the University of Sunderland.

Sandra Chapman, head of the University of Warwick's astrophysics group, has been appointed Warwick's first female professor of physics.

Andrew Watterson, professor at De Montfort University, Leicester, has been appointed to a chair in health effectiveness at the University of Stirling.

Gary Craig, former head of the policy studies research centre at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, has been appointed professor of social justice at the University of Hull.

Richard King, reader in religious studies at the University of Stirling, has been appointed professor of Asian philosophy and comparative religion at the University of Derby.
