This programme offers you an exciting opportunity to apply linguistic knowledge and related skills to the practical challenge of teaching English as a world language, whilst developing a high level of competence and communicative abilities in French. You will acquire an in depth understanding of the way that language works, from structural, social and cognitive perspectives, as well as how you can use this knowledge as an English language teacher around the world. A unique feature of this programme is that the year abroad is part of a three, rather than a four-year degree, giving you the opportunity to quickly advance your French language skills and fully immerse yourself in another culture. In this way, you will become more self-confident, independent and aware of the wider world; able to operate in another country in their language, as well as in English. This 3-year degree includes a semester or a year at a French university. Our French programme prioritises communication skills, with Francophone culture taught and assessed in French. Our TESOL programme combines study of linguistics, teaching methodology, and English in global and multilingual contexts. The CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages) is included in the course fee, subject to successful interview. This degree is a gateway to teaching English in the 29 French-speaking countries around the world. Graduates can also apply to our MA in Applied linguistics: TESOL, enabling you to gain a BA and MA in just 4 years.
