A Unique Programme: A unique programme linking social theory, sociology, education, psychology and social policy with professional practice it gives the graduate a firm foundation on which to become an effective and inclusive practitioner. This programme delivers graduates with a wide range of employability skills which will benefit individuals and groups from disadvantaged backgrounds, those ‘at risk’ and vulnerable adults and children through challenging social exclusion and disadvantage. Study Pathways: Students who choose this pathway will benefit from a course of study which will challenge accepted visions of care and wellbeing. This pathway will produce practitioners who are able and willing to challenge stereotypical attitudes where necessary by acting as both advocate and professional practitioner. A Contemporary Focus: Equality and inclusion remain ‘hot topics’ for local, regional and national politicians. Students will have placement opportunities and listen to a range of guest lecturers who work in a range of relevant settings. A Strong Lecturing Team: This programme benefits from lecturers who are not only actively engaged in social research, but they have direct experience working in the field of equality and inclusion. Practical Experience and Reflecting on Professional Practice: The course requires students to participate in observational placements and gain valuable experience in the workplace. This requires students to reflect on the social and cultural theories and policies link them to practice. Opportunities to study some modules through the medium of Welsh: Graduates who can study and engage with issues of Social Studies through the medium of Welsh are highly sought after by Welsh employers. Opportunities to study abroad: Students will have the opportunity to study in Europe, Finland, USA and Canada for a semester in year 2. There are also opportunities for educational visits within Wales and the UK
