Education Studies: Primary - University of Wales Trinity Saint David

The programme will provide you with the understanding and skills that are relevant for working with children of a primary school age. The link between theory, policy and practice in primary education will be explored, drawing on pedagogy, psychology, and sociology. There is an emphasis on contemporary issues in primary education, and the programme enables students to engage in small scale research in an area that interests them, as well as an extended essay in their third year. The programme will explore issues such as: Where and how do children learn? What are the barriers to learning that children experience and how may they be overcome? What are the key factors that have an impact on primary education in Wales today? How do adults work most effectively with children in an educational setting? What are the benefits of a bilingual education? What are the most important skills that learners need for the future? Also, this programme will enable students to develop key transferable skills including problem solving, team work, communication and critical thinking.
