We teach Japanese from scratch, so you don’t need previous experience. And you will be taught by native speakers in small groups. This intensive teaching is balanced with modules on Japan’s rich culture, its political influence, and its economy. You will spend your third year at one of our many partner universities in Japan. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 ranks Sheffield among the top ten Russell Group universities for languages and cultures. The Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, where you will spend roughly thirty per cent of our time, also teaches in small groups. The course is a bold first step towards a career in East Asia. All over Europe there are great opportunities for graduates who understand the region, its languages and cultures. Russian speakers are in demand too. Our graduates work in government and diplomacy, media, the arts, and international business.
