Midwifery is a hugely rewarding career and this inspiring and thought-provoking course prepares you for contemporary practice. Successful completion of the theory and practice undertaken during the course means that you will achieve a degree in midwifery and upon successful completion of all the education and practical elements be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Our course is equally distributed between theoretical and practical experience. You will study a broad range of midwifery topics and be taught to critically appraise the evidence-based learning and research-led education underpinning midwifery practice. Our values and research based curriculum allows you to gain experience of providing individualist and holistic care to women and their babies throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period. Through our case holding scheme and, alongside a qualified midwife, you will provide care for women and their babies. Case holding offers students the opportunity to follow women throughout their pregnancy, be on-call for the birth and care for women during the postnatal period. There is also an optional opportunity for students to undertake the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) pathway. The course is accredited by the Baby Friendly Initiative, this education during the course equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to support breastfeeding and effectively build relationships with women.
