Mathematics is a rational, objective subject valued in science and exploration, in business and government, in industry and forecasting, in art and in banking. This programme allows you to explore your options with a full-time industrial placement in your third year. You will source and secure your placement with support from UEA, and spend 9 to 14 months discovering the real-world applications of this powerful discipline. Throughout your placement you’ll stay in close contact with your assigned mentor at UEA, who’ll visit you during the year. You’ll also have an industrial supervisor to offer on-hand support throughout. Mathematics is useful in just about every field of human endeavour. It is used in science and exploration, in business and government, in industry and forecasting, in art and in banking – and our BSc Mathematics is very popular as a result. At UEA you’ll benefit from internationally recognised, research-led teaching and a high academic-staff-to-student ratio, ensuring you graduate with a deep understanding of mathematics, and great career prospects. Lectures are complemented by small group teaching in your first year and regular workshops in later years, ensuring you get quality contact time with world-class lecturers. If you excel in your academic performance, you could take the opportunity to transfer from the BSc course onto the four-year integrated Master’s in Mathematics. **Overview** You’ll spend the third of this four-year BSc degree on a full-time industrial placement lasting nine to fourteen months, where you’ll put theoretical work into professional practice, and gain a real advantage for when you graduate. The academic side of our course will help develop your interests in mathematics, and its flexible format will allow you to combine modules from pure and applied mathematics and statistics, covering topics such as the history of mathematics or the theory of teaching mathematics. Our expert academics are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. All of our lecturers are active internationally-recognised researchers who conduct world-leading work and incorporate it into their teaching. Over 87% of our mathematical sciences research outputs were judged internationally excellent or world-leading (REF 2014).
